MSA (Furby goes to sleep constantly)[]

This issue known as "MSA" originates from the original 1998 Furby models, where the Furby would say "Me Sleep Again" before shutting down.
While the 2012 Furby and Furby Boom models do not say this phrase, they exhibit the same sleep related issue. However the cause of this issue is different.

In 2012 and Furby Booms, the fault is characterized by the Furby repeatedly going to sleep, sometimes accompanied by a faint clicking sound from the speakers.

The cause is due to the motor failing to move. In some cases, unjamming and oiling the motor can help, though oiling one side of the motor is difficult due to it being capped.
Even after unjamming, the issue may persist due to worn brushes inside the motor. When this happens you can see a voltage drop when the motor runs in reverse, which prevents it from generating enough power to turn the gearbox. This in turn, disables the LED sensor, which triggers a safety mechanism that forces the Furby to sleep to prevent the motor from overheating.

Unfortunately as Furbys age and accumulate more use, this problem is going to become more common.

  • The simplest fix is to replace the motor with one from a donor Furby.
  • In some cases, cleaning the brushes and sanding the motor shaft can effectively remove any marks or scrapes caused by the brushes.

Eye Failure[]

Sometimes Furby's eyes do not light up but can still be faintly seen in the background. This is often caused by low voltage batteries and can be fixed by inserting fresh ones. If that doesn’t help, try pressing the reset button, which is also known to fix this bug.

  • If the issue persists, it may be due to backlight failure. Sometimes gently pressing on the eyes can fix this.

Design errors[]

Other known issues are known bugs, glitches, and design errors, and may not be able to be fixed.
